Our Brand-new Facility
Shattuck Child Care Center Inc. (SCC) is partnering with housing nonprofit 2Life Communities Inc. to construct a state-of-the-art 4,200 square foot customized ground floor childcare facility and 1,700 square foot playground at 2Life’s Brooke House at Olmsted Village project on the former Boston State Hospital site in Mattapan. With your help, SCC will continue providing high quality, affordable childcare with our core principles embedded in our approach—diverse in every way, integrated into the community, and a partner to families with young children.
Our Non-profit Partner
2Life Communities, a housing non-profit, is the perfect partner for this project. Their mission of supportive services for elders and their values of “loving kindness, community and repairing the world”, align perfectly with ours. Their vision for a multi-service center including elder housing, community healthcare and supports for foster-adoptive families and young adults aging out of the foster care system is exactly the opportunity we have spent the last 8 years looking for.
Our History
The SCCC has provided exceptional early childhood care and education for children ages 15 months through 6 years old since opening its doors on the grounds of the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in 1969. Since 2017, when our building was decommissioned by the state, the Board and leadership have been looking for a permanent community-based location to house our unique and special childcare center.
Our Goal
We need to raise $250,000 by 2028 for all our capital and other needs, including the move to the new location, furniture, a fully funded Tuition Assistance Program, and strategic reserves to ensure our future stability.

The MaryGrace Casey Playground
As part of the site, we plan to honor MaryGrace’s incredible commitment and dedication over 45 years at SCCC by naming the playground in our new location at Brooke House in Mattapan, The MaryGrace Casey Playground.
